Xperia X10 Mini pro – Look and Feel

Little Wonder

Recently Sony Ericsson has added a new slide out QWERTY handset by the name of Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro to its kitty. This new  handset is pretty much same as its predecessor in terms of other aspects apart from the QWERTY keypad. The display is 2.55inch screen having 3 hardware keys for home, menu, and back below it. Handset’s left panel includes a USB cum charging slot whereas the right panel has a volume key & the camera key. On the top of the handset we have the lock key/power key along with a 3.5mm jack.

X10 Mini Pro sports a 5.0megapixel camera on its back and has a detachable battery that was not available in the previous model. The phone has the microSD card slot under its battery cover on its left spine. Sliding to the upper panel right-ways would reveal a QWERTY keypad. Although Xperia X10 Mini pro is a touch screen phone it would have been more convenient for the user if it had the direction keys with the keypad.

Android

X10 Mini Pro has the Android 1.6 OS that is good but users might feel that it is bit back dated when the advanced versions are available. However its home screen has 4 screen panels with the option of adding widgets on each of these panels. Each widget will occupy a screen panel, though if one wants to add same widgets more than once they would have same number of screen panels. The handset has 4 semicircular buttons on each of the corner with the option of dialer, music, contacts and messages. These could also be customized. It has a notification bar on the top which provides the notification for missed calls, mails, etc.

Running at the bottom it has the soft white arrow which gives the option of the main menu which spreads across 4 screen panels. Touch sensitivity of the phone should be applauded as despite its small size delivers a very good visual experience. The QWERTY keypad is also very comfortable to use although it is very small, though one may find it a bit harder to press. As soon as the keypad is opened the phone turns to the landscape mode. It has an inbuilt accelerometer and the kinetic scrolling that helps in making the touch interface very easier to use. Whereas its touch input option is the same as X10 mini.

Always Connected

It delivers a decent performance when we browse over the internet as the user can zoom to a particular area which is quite handy if navigating a web page. The touch buttons onscreen could be used in order to zoom in or out on a page. X10 has supports Microsoft Exchange with RoadSync, also user has the option to set up other POP3 & IMAP4 accounts. The phone supports opening word and excels documents on the phone but by no means users could edit or create those files on the phone.

The options for connectivity are USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Added to these it also includes Google Maps, GPS, and a Wise Pilot navigation software. The pre-loaded app includes Facebook, Twitter in one slide scroll interface, which makes it easier to access. It has an app named timescape which integrates all SNS activities and things are easier to use. There are several other apps in the Android market which also could be installed on the phone for adding more fun and entertainment.

Music on the move

X10 mini pro has an inbuilt music player and a FM player too. It has a great sound quality as it could have been expected from it. . It has a basic music player and does not include any music enhancement features. FM also has a good reception and includes RDS support. The trademark apps of Sony Ericsson i.e. Play Now & Track ID apps have been preloaded.

Camera

The phone sports a 5.0-megapixel camera having a LED flash. The various focus modes are macro, auto, sports, and twilight. The user could access the focus modes, video mode, the flash settings and the last taken picture directly from the home screen. The picture clarity delivered is pretty good. Users can shoot videos both in the video as well as MMS mode and the best part is that flash could be used for both the purposes. The user can toggle from still to video mode, flash on/off video length and focus directly from the home screen.

Addition

Sony Ericsson’s devices come with ne addition i.e. the Infinity button. This button was also there on the Xperia X10 Mini. But now we have the infinity button present everywhere. Be it the contacts, music player, etc. Upon pressing the infinity button for the contacts all information about a particular person over the web gets displayed. The same happens when it gets pressed for contents like music.

Other options

The X10 Mini Pro has been priced at Rs 16,400. An option having the same features that could be considered is the HTC Wildfire which costs Rs 15,000 and runs on the Android v2.1.
