If you are a Nokia fan, then this piece of information will surly cheer you. Nokia says that the company has shipped 1.5 billionth phone
operating on S40 OS. The Finnish mobile phone manufacturer first sold S40 phone in 1999 and for many years, the software contributed to a great extent for Nokia’s commercial success in the mobile phone segment. On the achievement, Mary Mcdowell who runs Nokia’s cell phone division commented that it is very difficult to imagine a product which had such a huge impact on the population of the world. Feature phones from Nokia run on S40 platform.
According to Nokia at present there are about 675 million owners of S40 phones in the world. It also said that at present it is selling 12 phones running on S40 platform every second. Of course the platform has seen massive changes over the years and today it can run apps which a few years ago only ran on smartphones. Nokia credits the software’s efficient management of phone memory along with battery power a major factor in its success which makes S40 phone popular among people who cannot afford smartphones.
Ms McDowell further added that in order to further enhance the popularity of the S40 platform, the OS now supports a wide range of apps right from Angry Birds to popular instant messaging which helps users to connect to their social networks. It is to be noted that when Nokia launched its flagship model Nokia Lumia 800 running on Windows platform it also presented a wide range of S40 phones under the Asha brand.
