The Nokia 5250 is targeted at budget buyers who want to get good features without shelling out a fortune. The device does not let you down. Take a look at the looks and functionalities of the Nokia 5250 to know what we mean.

Nokia 5250 looks and design

At first glance, the Nokia 5250 looks a bit like its cousin X3-02 but it lacks the latter’s additional keyboard and touch screen facility. We found the Nokia 5250 display to be a bit lame. The screen resolution is 640 X 360 pixels which can be found in all Nokia models supporting 5th version of Symbian 60 OS. As far as the resolution is concerned, it is a bit downer only for the fact that Nokia is not offering something new. Otherwise, the screen was pretty good. We liked the resistive touch screen display which let us read text as well as surf the web with élan. The 2.8 inch TFT screen offers 16 million colors and the picture quality is the sharpest you can see in mobiles of this price range. The interface is very user-friendly. The function keys are located at the bottom of the display and are easy to operate.

Designwise, the 5250 gives you a pleasant feeling. We found the 104 X 49 X 14 mm candy bar model very sleek and easy to hold. Despite the glossy body and front display the phone offers you a good grip. This is partly made easy by the stylishly elevated sound control buttons placed in the right side of the model. The device weighs only 107 grams. You can use it very easily for longer conversations.

Nokia 5250 Features

A discussion about Nokia 5250 specs must begin with one statement. This is a device for music lovers. Period. There can be no other way of describing the Nokia 5250 which clearly aims at pleasing music aficionados. Nokia has been trying to cater to music lovers for a while and the 5250 seems to be one of its latest attempts in this direction. As per Nokia’s own admission, the phone can play music non-stop for a full day. The device boasts of a dedicated music player that lets you download tracks from Ovi Music Unlimited. That means you can download as many tunes as you want for free. The player supports music files of almost all digital audio formats which is good news for music lovers. The dedicated 3.5 mm audio jack lets you experience terrific sound quality. We loved every bit of the Beatles on the 5250. There is a built-in FM Radio tuner that lets you listen to live radio. Thankfully, Nokia has also something on offer for aspiring rockstars. The Guitar Hero 5 Mobile feature lets you practice rock music and perfect yourself till you have got it right.

With 51 MB internal storage, the Nokia 5250 memory is not very good. But the microSD slot lets you extend it to 16 GB with a memory card. That lets you store as many as 4,000 songs. An entire music collection can snugly fit into your pocket.

Camera Performance

The Nokia 5250 camera is a bit dull. The budget may have a role to play in this. Still, we expected a better performance from the 5250 camera. The 2 megapixel can shoot images at up to 1600 x 1200 resolution and QVGA videos at 30 fps. The built-in Ovi share facility lets you share captured images directly to the web.

You will probably not mind if you want a camera in your phone and do not care much about its quality. But we give a thumb down. Why include a camera if you cannot offer good quality?

Nokia 5250 connectivity

The internet capability of the phone is not too great either. There may be internet accessibility but the speed can be very depressing without WIFI and 3G. You have to depend on GPRS, GSM and EDGE for web surfing. On the plus side, you can set up and use social networking services and e-mail very easily. You can easily access social sites like Facebook and Myspace and log in to multiple GMail, Yahoo Mail and Ovi Mail accounts. Major instant messenger accounts are also within your reach with the 5250.

There is no infrared facility. Thankfully, you can get Bluetooth 2.1 version with A2DP.

Nokia 5250 Battery Performance

Nokia 5250 comes with a battery decent enough for the budget phone bracket. The phone gives you 7 hours of talk-time and standby time of 18 days. As we said earlier, you can play music for 24 hours or one full day.

Nokia 5250 Price

The Nokia 5250 is available at 7300 iINR, $146 or 115 euros which adds to the ‘wow’ factor of the phone. The low pricing is in fact the biggest asset of this device. We feel Nokia has made a smart move to make a budget phone instead of creating a high-end gadget for people with bigger pockets.

The model is available in Purple, Blue, Grey, White and Black colors.

Nokia 5250 may not be on a par with other Nokia music phones like Nokia 5230 or Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. But as a budget phone, it does not fare too badly. The internet connectivity and camera quality may not be that great. But if you are ready to make some compromise on quality for affordability, this can be a good buy for you.

Nokia to build affordable touch phone. His best 4 of the iPhone, which burns a hole in your wallet. If you did not like the miser 5250, and go on to buy a new Nokia N8. I do not know why Android phones, like Samsung and Sony Ericsson Galaxy are expensive.
