Motorola XPRT Review

Are you looking for a phone which boasts of a BlackBerry like design along with extra security software? Well, then, Motorola XPRT can very well be the phone for you. Motorola XPRT is not exactly a new phone as it debuted on Verizon as Droid Pro in November last year. Most of business users will find XPRT quite useful because of its features. Check out our exclusive Motorola XPRT review to know what the phone has in store for you.

Motorola XPRT Looks and Design

At a first glance XPRT looks very much similar to that of Droid Pro. XPRT retains the same design as that of Droid Pro. However, on close monitoring one can notice some changes. XPRT has a different color scheme. The Chrome trim has been moved to the front bezel and hard plastic has made way for the soft one. The phone is quite comfortable to grip and with dimensions measuring 120.4″ x 60.9″ x 13″ mm, the phone easily slips into your pocket. It is a bit bulky weighing 145 grams. Motorola has done a fine job in giving the phone a great look and built. It feels durable and users will be quite impressed by the looks and design of this smartphone.

Motorola XPRT Display

Here comes our first hitch about Motorola XPRT. The phone features a 3.1 inches TFT capacitive touch screen which is capable of producing pictures of resolution measuring 320×480 pixels. The resolution of the screen is almost half the resolution of new smartphones. The screen however is quite good. The colors rendered are clear and crisp. We could easily read the contents of the screen.

The screen boasts of touch sensitive controls and multi-touch input method. There is an accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and a proximity sensor for auto-turn off. The volume rocker and the microUSB port are on the left side, while the mic is at the bottom. The multi-function key is on the right side while the power button and 3.5mm headphone jack is at the top of the phone.

Motorola XPRT Keyboard

XPRT comes with a QWERTY keypad which makes it look like a BlackBerry kind of a phone. As compared to the keyboards of other Android phones, XPRT’s keys are small and very tightly packed. But despite the keys being small, they are quite comfortable to use. The keys are quite well built, responsive and are pretty easy to locate. We found the QWERTY keyboard much easy to use than sliders.

Motorola XPRT Features

The phone runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo), though Android 2.3(Gingerbread) has come in the market. We will soon want Gingerbread update to be pushed in Motorola XPRT. The phone is equipped with several inbuilt applications such as Google Search, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Google Talk, Facebook, Yahoo etc. You can download your favorite applications from Android market. It is equipped with Motoblur interface which has 7 home screens. The internal memory of the phone offers a storage space of about 2GB which can be increased to 32GB. The 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor does quite a decent job. Business users will further appreciate features likeĀ  256-bit AES data encryption and other remote handling functions such as enabling of a password, data wipe and password recovery.

Motorola XPRT Camera

Motorola XPRT comes with a 5MP camera which is capable of clicking pictures of resolution measuring 2592?1944 pixels. The picture quality of XPRT are quite standard, though in some cases we felt that the colors are bit washed away and that more details could have been captured. The camera is equipped with a LED flash which facilitates clicking photographs in dim light. It also has geo-tagging facilities.

Motorola XPRT Video Quality

Motorola XPRT mobile is capable of recording videos of 720×480 pixels. It offers auto as well as night scene and in our testing, the videos played was quite smooth. Watching Youtube videos of XPRT was a good experience for us.

Motorola XPRT Connectivity

Connectivity is quite standard with XPRT with the phone supporting both 2G as well as 3G network. There is also support for GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 supporting A2DP profile. The presence of microUSB 2.0 and the 3.5mm audio jack further enhances connectivity of the phone.

Motorola XPRT Multimedia

XPRT comes with dual cellular radios. One uses the CDMA/EVADO standard for Sprint while the other is GSM/HSPA. The video player is capable of playing videos of various formats, but in some of our MPEG 4 file test, it failed miserably.
