Motorola’s first-rated Android phone, Motorola Milestone makes a history among Motorola mobile world. Milestone is available in a GSM flavor. It is named as one of the thinnest QWERTY keypad slider in current mobile bazaar.

Special Traits

Milestone uses the Android 2.0 (Eclair) platform bringing out new features which are almost to stir up the minds of users and developers. After registering a record-flouting loss and being down on the mobile market, this may be the pretty good move from Motorola. Using the world class operating system in their new Milestone will be the good idea to promote the brand name with the gained reputation and swiftness of Android OP.

Yeah, Android is the fast running operating system not only to the mobile providers, but even it’s the one operating system which is running rapidly in the minds of mobile freaks. You will of course be happy to see your CDMA device is assisting you with the Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation and native Microsoft Exchange support together with enhanced browser.

Design

Motorola is not going beyond their reputation of developing solid hardware even in their new born smartphone. The black body with bronze color camera mobile that highlights the Motorola Milestone is stylish and elegant in designs as well. The WVGA touchscreen allows 16.9 million color pixels to make your smartphone a real ‘smart’ phone. This 3.7 inch touchscreen mobile also offers the QWERTY keypad to play your game as much as you want.

The quite heavy smartphone of 165g is not fit in every pocket with its 11.58 x 60mm structure though it is 13.7mm slim by the by.

The touch interface provides a soft and fascinating turns all around the available features, whereas the QWERTY keypad meant for an excellent tangible response. The QWERTY keypad is set along with the D-pad which allows you to scroll at the same time as you type some text. The left side houses the camera and mobile keys where the right side has charger and USB slot. The back panel sported the 5 mega pixel camera along with its LED flash and the top panel is with the 3.5mm jack and power/lock keys.

Features

Its quad-band GSM and HSPA support Milestone to distinguish with the Droid. This helps the download of 10.2 Mbps speed with the uploading of 5.7 Mbps and it varies in line with the operator’s network.

Motorola Milestone includes the other connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and A-GPS satellite navigation too.

Though, the primary launched Milestone comes with the Android 2.0 operating system, it changed the operating system to Android 2.1 OS.

As the Motorola company has not ported their custom software, MotoBlur, over the Éclair, we still get the basic features of the Android 2.1 here. It provides the Google services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps and YouTube Facilities. Google Maps and YouTube will set up by default and even it can work with no delay if it has a valid data connection.

The Moto Phone Portal feature which available in Milestone helps you to access contacts, text messages and photos from your mobile to connected PC through the internet browser of your computer. It allows you to keep backups and for transferring images without the help of any installed software on your PC.

The 5 megapixel camera which comes along with LED flash facilitates to use your camera worthy even in dark surroundings. In darkness, some noise is observed in the images and it makes the images unclear in some extent. The casual photos will be well worked with Milestone than better photographic use as it is not meant for visual aesthetic like HTC Desire. Though, the camera is convenient to meet our expectations of freezing the dearest moments.

For the video, in Milestone the two options are reliable to record as one of it means the recording for MMS which is low quality and the high quality is for other purposes. The 3GP format video is on H.264 encoding.

Milestone offers better speed in uploading videos in YouTube over Wi-Fi. The allowed high resolution video option is of D1@24 fps. The geo-tagging will help you to note down the location of your shots and it also helps you to send both photos and videos so rapidly to your dear ones’ e-mail account without any bothering of composing mails through the quick send address.

The music player is enough good though it cannot beat the devices like Imagio, iPhone, or Pre. But still it is doing well with its powerful external speaker which will be loud enough otherwise, the 3.5mm headset or stereo Bluetooth are there to help you out.

But it is really sad that it won’t be housing any radio FMs in your pocket.

Final Say

In an overall, Motorola Milestone is fair to have in your pocket. The voice quality and sensitivity is far good. But the battery life is actually not up to the market at all. Though this Motorola Milestone is an ingenious smartphone piece, I think for a retail price of $888, the Milestone is not valuing the money in several aspects. But still Milestone is good and adequate if you need a smartphone to cheer up with the fast growing world.
