Motorola DROID X ME811
Back in 2007 Motorola was down in the dumps and was almost written off by trade pundits. But some wise marketing decisions and a series of winners later, the US giant has made a swift turnaround and managed to get back on track. The DROID X ME811 seems to be another step in the right direction. We will share with you what we found in Motorola’s latest offering.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Design
Design has almost always been a strong factor of Motorola and if you remember RAZR you probably know what we are talking about. The ME811 sports a candy bar form factor with the major frontal part devoted to the 4.3 inch display. Beneath the display rests four convenience buttons such as Home, Back and Search. There are also some handy keys on the sides that include volume rocker, TV-out, memory card slot and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
With a 127.5 x 65.5 x 9.9 mm chassis and 155 g weight, the phone stands lean for modern use. We could easily hold the Droid and use it for long conversations without any apparent discomfort. We hope you will not have any problems either.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Display
We liked the Droid’s display though we were not too impressed with it. The display is TFT capacitive and can show 16 million colors. The screen is 4.3 inch in size, almost perfect to sport a handful of widgets. You can also watch videos and movies with absolute ease. The screen is enabled with accelerometer sensor, multi-touch input method and proximity sensor for automatic turn-off.
The reason for complain is the resolution. The 480 X 854 pixel is good but could have been better. Another thing to moan about is the brightness which is excellent inside but not so much in outdoor environs. Watching your home screen icons under direct sunlight can be difficult.
Motorola Droid X Keyboard
There is no actual Motorola Droid X QWERTY here which means you have to make do with a virtual one. The onscreen keyboard is a fantastic one and shows great touch sensitivity. You have to remain a little careful at first and you will get used after a point of time. The smart text input makes typing very easy and the process is nearly as good as in the iPhone.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Internals
The new Droid X boasts of 512 MB RAM paired with a 1 GB ROM. The storage capacity can be improved to a staggering 32 GB which spells good news for all your songs, images, videos, applications and documents.
The device is powered by a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP3630-1200 processor instead of an earlier 1 GHz one. Needless to say that the operations are even better this time and we felt this particularly while running simultaneous programs on the phone.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Multimedia
As far as entertainment goes, Droid rocks! Whether the camera or the audio performance, Droid gets almost everything right. Here is a smartphone that multimedia phone lovers will greatly enjoy.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Camera
There is only one Motorola Droid X ME811 camera, but it is as good as two. The 8 MP camera is equipped with dual-LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, image stabilization and face detection. It can shoots images at a terrific 3266×2450 pixel resolution which must be enough indication for you how good the quality is. Without a doubt, this is better than even iPhone 4.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Video
Sadly, the Droid could not do better than the iPhone 4 in the video department. While Apple’s baby captures videos at 720p@30fps, Droid records at 720p@24fps. Still, that is great enough and we loved both the clarity and quality of the Motorola Droid X ME811 videos. The inbuilt video player supports a number of formats like MP4, WMV, H.263 and H.264.
For buyers of Motorola Droid X Youtube videos will also be a treat to watch. We especially enjoyed the HD ones on the big Droid screen. A dedicated YouTube application makes things faster and easier.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Audio Performance
The Motorola Droid X ME811 audio performance screams for attention and why not? Music is awesome when heard on the Droid and we enjoyed a clear, noise-free sound quality on the phone. The Droid is friendly towards audio file formats like MP3, WAV, WMA and AAC. The sound performance is further amplified with headphones.
There is also an on-board Stereo FM Radio with RDS for lovers of FM stations.
The on-board Motorola Droid X games are pretty good. We loved playing Need for Speed Shift. With a 32 GB memory extension, you can also load some more games into it.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Connectivity
Connectivity is not as good as it should have been. When most smartphones are offering GPRS and EDGE with eyes shut, how could the Droid have missed giving us these two? Thankfully, there is 3G and WIFI support and that more than makes up for the loss with fast speeds. Even indoors, we could open pages pretty fast and if your carrier is a good one you are going to enjoy surfing. The HTML browser displays texts and images very satisfactorily. Social Networkers will get to their favorite sites very easily.
For local syncing and data transfer, you can use Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB 2.0. There is no infrared but then that is a problem with most smartphones these days.
Motorola Droid X Features
In the Motorola Droid X Froyo Android 2.2 is the software driving the operations. The smooth, glassy themes and wallpapers will bowl you over as will the operations of the Motorola Droid X OS.
There is virtually a galaxy of apps loaded into the phone and you can also insert many new ones. The inbuilt ones consist of Google Maps, Google Search, Document Viewer and a Photo viewer cum editor among others.
Communication is easy with several chat and mailing applications like Google Talk and Gmail ruling the device.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Basic Performance
The basic functionalities are good enough and normal users will find this good-looking phone perfect for everyday use. Ringtones are loud and clear and audible even in noisy environments. MP3 and WAV ringtones are supported.
Call quality is decent and it is only in cacophonous surroundings that you have problems listening to the person on the other end. But that it is a given with most phones. There is support for SMS, MMS, IM, Email and Push Mail.
There is an inbuilt Organizer and a Voice Memo that is up to user satisfactions. The predictive text input is also quite assistive while typing names.
Motorola Droid X ME811 Accessories
The Droid arrives with standard accessories like headset, charger and USB cable. There is also a Motorola Droid X manual inside the box. Users in need of reference can look up for it in this Motorola Droid X tutorial booklet.

Motorola Droid X Battery Performance
A 1540 mAh Lithium Ion battery drives the Motorola Droid X ME811 and offers a standby time of about 170 hours. With extended usage we got a talk time of around 6 hours.
So will you buy the Motorola Droid X mobile phone or not? The latest Android version, an updated TI OMAP3630-1200 processor, terrific multimedia performance and good battery backup – all makes the Droid a steal. If you are looking for something beyond Apple and Nokia, this is a good option.
