LG GD510 Pop (Cookie Pep )
Here comes, the world says, LG has launched its most popular device, the LG Cookie, sometime before. Now it seems LG wants to ride on its great popularity. The company has come up with yet another Cookie and this time a more compact one. It is the Mini Cookie. LG focuses to capture the youth market mostly.
Across the world Mini Cookie has been launched as LG POP with a solar panel on its front screen. However, in India the phone does not carry any such eco-friendly feature and it is named as LG Cookie PEP.
The phone is a very handy one with an extremely cute look. It has a brushed aluminum look with 3.2-inch front panel screen, below which it has a multi-purpose button for getting call logs, accepting calls, call end key and more.
The left panel of the phone houses lanyard eyelet, USB/headphone/charger slot and volume rocker. The right side of the phone contains camera key which also works as task manager. There is no flash in the phone and it also does not have a 3.5 mm jack for the use of headphone.
Though the phone has touchscreen but there is no stylus. Strange. Well, it seems working fine with the fingers.
Its the trend of multiple homescreens, so Cookie PEP also follows it. The phone has three homescreens and user can access it by swiping left and right. The three screens are dedicated to widgets, LiveSquare and contacts. All the screens are customizable and are represented by tiny icons displayed on the top of the screen. The icons are highlighted when the corresponding screen is active. This makes the recognizing easy.
Each of the screens are having four default icons which is for dialing, for contacts, messages and for menu. This is a regular feature with S-Class UI phones. The menu is segregated as communication, entertainment, utilities and settings.
In the LiveSquare application user can create his or her own contact environment with the facility of enabling avatars to the most frequent contacts. These contacts can also be accessed from the homescreen. The messages and missed calls are also highlighted in the homescreen.
The phone can be used in landscape as well as portrait mode. Thanks to the built-in accelerometer. Also thanks to the built-in motion sensor that can be used for silencing calls and snoozing alarms by simply turning the phone face down.
In the PEP the handwriting recognition feature works good, but only when it is one alphabet at a time. You have to get your own stylus for it and the width, transparency, color etc. can be adjusted. Also, the virtual keypad is good enough.
PEP Performance with the Net
The LG Cookie PEP has an impressive data features and it brings the world in your palm. Apart from supporting email clients such as POP3 and IMAP4, user can download as well as open documents on the handset by using the Picsel File viewer. Even zoom and search features are available with this app.
Browsing the web was satisfactory if we only want the basic requirements. PDF files opens easily and perfectly. Social networking apps in the device are Facebook, Twitter and MySpace to keep you always in touch with friends and family even if are on the go. The phone also has Google search, Data Wallet, LG Helpdesk, NewsHunt, banner maker, etc.
Camera Quality of PEP
The phone comes with 3.0-megapixel camera and without auto-focus. The camera can be set at 2048×1536 pixels and it has features like color effects, night mode, white balance, picture quality, self-timer and also of continuous shot.
Well, the camera gives superior quality picture in outdoors or in well-lit areas as the flash in it is missing and the quality suffers in low light conditions.
The viewfinder helps in separating the still and video camera but there is a separate icon also given for it.
The video recording is offered in two resolutions, the QVGA (320×240) and QCIF (176×144). Color effects adding features is also embeded in the device. The quality of the videos taken are average and you can create your own slide shows in the Muvee studio with available themes and any background music of your choice.
