HTC Sensation Review

Dual core phones have been quite a hit among consumers because of their robust performance and high end features. In a bid to grab the emerging dual core market, Taiwanese cell phone manufacturer HTC has come up with a dual core smartphone, HTC Sensation. It is one of the most awaited smartphones of the season and much like its name it seeks to create a sensation among users. The high screen resolution coupled with the 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, the phone seeks to create a niche for itself in the increasingly competitive smartphone market. Check out our exclusive HTC Sensation review to know what the phone offers you.

HTC Sensation Looks And Design

HTC is known to come out with handsets which boast of attractive design and Sensation is one of the most attractive phones you will find in the market. With the dimensions of the phone measuring 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3 mm, the size of the phone is very much the same as that of other 4.3″ screen devices. The device looks elegant with curves all around and is very comfortable to grip. It has been designed to carry out long conversations and the concave screen further enhances the looks of the phone. It is a bit bulky weighing approximately 148 grams. The aluminum casing lends the phone durability and overall we can say that the phone is solidly built.

HTC Sensation Screen

The phone sports a 4.3inches gorilla glass protected S-LCD screen which is capable of displaying colors of resolution measuring 540x960pixels. Thanks to the gorilla glass, theĀ  screen is protected to scratches and spills. Though the colors displayed are quite sharp, yet when it comes to viewing angles, then the screen suffers heavily. Even on being titled slightly, the colors get washed out. Sunlight legibility of the screen is quite decent and we did not face much difficulty in reading texts in direct sunlight.

Below the screen lies the four capacitive touch screen button. The left side of the screen houses the microUSB port and the volume rocker buttons. The top sports a 3.5mm audio jack. The back cover of the phone has antennas and when it is removed then Wi-Fi signals are lost. The phone suffers to some extent from death grip issues.

HTC Sensation Apps

Applications are important for any smartphone and HTC has integrated several apps in the phone. Some of them are as follows

  • Google Search
  • Gmail
  • Google Talk
  • Document Viewer
  • Picasa Integration

With the availability of the Android market, there is no dearth of applications. Users can download their favorite apps from the Android market.

HTC Sensation Features

One of the great features of HTC Sensation gorilla glass is its operating system. The phone runs on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and version 3.0 of the HTC Sense. The processor is also an important feature of the phone. The 1.2 GHz dual-core processor of the phone has enough muscle to help users enjoy Youtube videos on Sensation and play high end games. The phone has a new lock screen and there are six different lock screen integrated in the phones. The phonebook of the device is pretty good which keeps things in order and has deep social network integration. It is capable of handling all sorts of messaging be it SMS, MMS or email.

HTC Sensation Keyboard

HTC Sensation android offers a virtual QWERTY keypad to input text. The keypad of Sensation is great to use in landscape mode rather than in portrait mode. In portrait mode, the keys looked a bit cramped while in landscape mode the keys appeared large which facilitates typing message or email.

HTC Sensation Email And Gallery

The phone comes with a couple of email apps. One gets the traditional Gmail application and the generic HTC mail application which syncs all mail accounts into a single inbox. HTC mail app is capable of handling several accounts with each account being color coded. The gallery looks nice as images and videos are stored in separate folders. One can easily share the photos through Facebook, Twitter, Picasa and Flickr.

HTC Sensation Games

Users can download games of their choice from the Android market and can share it at ease.

HTC Sensation Camera

HTC Sensation QWERTY is equipped with a 8MP camera which is capable of clicking pictures of resolution measuring 3264×2448 pixels. The interface of the camera is very efficient with the right side hosting most of the controls. The camera is equipped with advanced features such as touch focus and face detection. However, we were a bit disappointed to note that despite the phone having an 8MP camera, the captured details are not that very high. The contrast and the colors are however good, but the camera lags as compared to phones like LG Optimus 2X and Samsung Galaxy S II. There is also a secondary VGA camera which comes in handy when you are looking forward to carry out video conference.

HTC Sensation Video Recording

The phone records 1080p videos at 30fps which is very nice. The videos are captured in .3gp format and the though the recording is nice, yet we felt that it lacks details as compared to 720p videos recorded by iPhone 4. Still the videos are smooth and have pleasing colors.

HTC Sensation Connectivity

Connectivity is seamless with Sensation with the phone offering support for quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Local connectivity in the device is enhanced by the presence of Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. As said earlier that there are death grip issues with the phone as most of the antennas are located on the back cover of the phone. When it is touched then Wi-Fi signals are reduced to zero. Connectivity is also consolidated by the presence of 3.5mm jack and microUSB 2.0. The web browser of the phone has plenty of power which supports double tap zooming and text-reflow.

HTC Sensation Multimedia

The FM radio of the phone has a simple interface and the music player does well because of the SRS sound enhancement system. The audio output too is pretty good and when one plugs in the earphone the amplitude is enhanced manifold.

HTC Sensation Accessories

During HTC Sensation unboxing we found the phone to be equipped with the following accessories

  • Charger
  • MicroUSB cable
  • Headset
  • User manual

HTC Sensation Colors

The phone is available in only one color – Black.

HTC Sensation Drawbacks

Though the phone boasts of some lovely features, it suffers from some drawbacks. Some of the major drawbacks of the phone are as follows

  • Death Grip Issue
  • Lack of dedicated camera key
  • Poor viewing angles of screen

HTC Sensation Battery Life

A standard Li-Ion 1520 mAh battery powers the phone which provides a talk time of approximately 8 hours.

HTC Sensation Price

HTC Sensation cost in USA is approximately $ 500 while price of the phone in India is approximately Rs 30,500.

HTC Sensation Verdict

HTC has packed Sensation with so many great features that it really makes a very good impression. Though the phone has certain disadvantages, yet undoubtedly it is one of the most solid smartphones which you will find in the market. The dual core processor coupled with HTC Sense 3.0 makes Sensation a good purchase.
